Shades of Prescott as Garcia stops Khan in four

Briton loses out on Mayweather clash

WBC light-welterweight champion Danny ‘Swift’ Garcia produced a stunning TKO victory over WBA belt holder Amir Khan in Las Vegas to unify the titles at the Mandalay Bay.

The 24 year-old took two rounds to get going as Khan, 25, fired off at will, using his speed to weave in and out until Garcia pummelled him with a terrific left hook in the third round.

Khan’s legs went from underneath him as they did against Breidis Prescott in 2008 and although referee Kenny Bayliss allowed him to continue and survive the round, the bout should have been waved off as Khan touched down again.

The Bolton fighter’s one minute interval must have felt like ten seconds as he look unsteady on his feet coming out for the fourth and Garcia hunted him down until Bayliss did what should have done in the third.

The now former WBA champion could hardly stand as he attempted to fend off a strong Garcia and the American now stands alone as the best fighter in the division.

Garcia improves to 24-0 and can look forward to some bumper pay-days in the near future, with offers sure to come to move up to the packed welterweight division.

Rico Ramos captures world super- bantamweight title with KO

Jay WBN Editor ‘Suavecito’ scores 20th straight win over Shimoda Undefeated Californian Rico Ramos produced a world-class left hand in the seventh round of his WBA title challenge against Japan’s Akifumi Shimoda to rip the belt away from the older southpaw in his first defence. The 24 year-old looked far from a world champion in the first five rounds, only gaining a foothold in the fight in round six, but ultimately produced the equalizer in the seventh to take the crown. Shimoda, 26, will be furious with himself as he bossed the majority of the fight and was up five rounds to one on my card going into the seventh round. One lapse in concentration with only thirty seconds left in round seven and Shimoda hit the canvas. The champion tried to get up at the count of nine, but stumbled over and the referee counted him out.
