Family fued fight is possible
After Junior Witters pot shots in a recent interview with the BBC, Matthew Hatton has retaliated by saying it’s a fight that the current EBU Welterweight champion would not refuse.
"I don't see winning Hatton’s title as being a problem at all, then I want to move up to the world scene and get a title shot.
"Andre Berto's WBC title is the one I want, but there are other champions out there."
At 36, and with only five fights in four years behind him and two defeats in his last three bouts, It’s a little bit audacious for Witter to be calling out unbeaten champion Andre Berto but that’s how Junior operates.
As a British domestic dust-up though, I think it would raise quite a bit of interest, especially given the lengthy history between Ricky and Witter.
Matthew (41-4-2), is on the back of a easy victory over unranked European challenger Roberto Belge and is hoping to get himself into position to challenge Viachaslev Senchenko for the WBA Welterweight title some time in the summer.
A warm up fight with Witter could be a possibilty as both talked about the possibility after Hatton's title defence with Witter co-commentator on the bout and with the interest in the Hatton v Witter family saga, it would be a fight that would make sense financially too.
