Jay  WBN Editor ‘Boxing Binman’ confident of Quigg victory Rendall Munroe has told WBN that even though Toshiaki Nishioka has recently announced his retirement, he is willing to offer the Japanese legend another shot at a world title belt in 2013. Jay  WBN Editor Mexican wanted revenge opportunity WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez has told World Boxing News that he had hoped to avenge his 2009 loss to current WBC super-bantamweight belt holder Toshiaki Nishioka only for the Japanese fighter to turn him down. The 31 year-old, who has stopped all eleven opponents since then within six rounds, was hoping that Nishioka would meet him again after being stopped in three rounds on his home soil, only to be left disappointed as Nishioka was unwilling to accept his request. “With Nishioka, I don’t think it will happen ever again because he and his team are not interested in a rematch,” Gonzalez told World Boxing News. “My sponsors proposed the bout to the 122lb champion but he would not take the fight and so we have moved on.” Gonzalez now looks set to fight Mandatory challenger Eloy Perez in March as previously stated to World Boxing News and then may be ready to unify the division before...

Jay  WBN Editor Champion retains title at MGM Grand WBC super-bantamweight title holder Toshiaki Nishioka set up a possible defence against unified bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire after securing his belt for the sixth time in Las Vegas against Mexican Rafael Marquez. The 35 year-old scored his 39 th career win in 46 contests with a unanimous decision triumph as the judges gave him the bout 117-111, 116-112 and 115-113 to improve his Nevada record to three out of three. Also on the MGM Grand bill, Roman Gonzalez retained his WBA light-flyweight title with a second round stoppage win over Omar Soto. The 24 year-old two-weight world champion had too much power for the older Mexican and took him out with minimal fuss early in the second session.

Jay  WBN Editor Champion shows class to out-point Brit WBC Super-Bantamweight Champion Toshiaki Nishioka kept hold of his title after a unanimous points decision victory over Rendall Munroe in Tokyo, Japan. All three judges, two Americans and a Mexican, scored the bout 119-109 which didn’t really reflect the effort shown by challenger in a cauldron of Japanese fans at the Sumo Hall. Munore started well, taking the centre of the ring and pushing back the champion with his strength but seemed to struggle generating enough power to hurt the WBC Champion. After round four, Nishioka took control of the bout and picked his punches superbly, shaking Munroe in the fifth with his trademark left hand and again in the seventh with an awesome body shot. Jay  WBN Editor Rendall Munroe focused on WBC Title WBC Super-Bantamweight Title challenger Rendall Munroe has been acclimatising to the Japanese time zone all this week in preparation for his bout with champion Toshiaki Nishioka on Sunday morning in Tokyo. “The Boxing Bin-man” as he is lovingly known in his home country has enjoyed his time in Japan and is hoping for a happy ending to his 12 day stay by taking the title back to his native Britain. Munroe 30, has just one close points defeat in 21 contests but is taking a huge step up against the champion, who has shared the ring with and beaten, some of the top super-bantamweights in the world. Nishioka (36-4-3) has beaten Ivan Hernandez and Jhonny Gonzalez in the last two years, both by stoppage and will have every confidence in keeping hold of the title he won in January 2009.
