Randall Bailey seeks out Maidana, Thurman or Senchenko

Despite being 38 and coming off the loss of his International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight title belt by decision to Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KOs), three-time, two division world champion Randall "KO King" Bailey (43-8, 37 KOs) isn't ready just yet to hang-up his gloves for good. To the contrary, the Floridian is looking for, as he calls it, a few  real fights  against the likes of fellow sluggers Marcos Rene Maidana or Keith Thurman. Bailey is open to fighting past and present world champions, top contenders, or leading prospects but, what this feared one-punch threat would really like is a fan-friendly showdown against a straight forward, power puncher. "World title fights aren't always the best fights," he explained. "I want to be in entertaining fights, the ones TV networks want to pay for, and fans love to watch. If I had my choice, right now, it would be against Maidana or Thurman, even ( Vyacheslav )...

Alexander dethrones Bailey to become two-weight world champion

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor Unanimous decision victory for ‘The Great’ Devon Alexander avoided Randall Bailey’s powerful right hand for the duration of the twelve rounds tonight to claim the IBF welterweight title and set up a possible bout with Britain’s Kell Brook. The fight was a cat and mouse affair that saw Alexander paw with his jab, keeping Bailey at range and smothering him up close in order to stifle the ‘KO King’ from using his signature punch. Fans at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn roundly booed throughout the fight and at the final decision following a bout that lacked any intensity and excitement as Alexander took a 117-109, 116-110, 115-111 victory. Bailey only landed with his hayemaker on one occasion in the fifth round, but Alexander was able to shake off the blow and stick to his gameplan to pick up a world title at a second weight-class. A clash of heads early in the fight was the only other incident of note in the fight that will be easily ...

Bailey: When I just touch Alexander, he's going to know he is in big trouble

International Boxing Federation (IBF) Welterweight Champion   Randall "KO King" Bailey  (43-7, 37 KOs) has fully recovered from a back injury that postponed his original September 8th title defense date against Devon Alexander "The Great"  (23-1, 13 KOs). Three-time world champion Bailey plans to live-up to his "KO King" nickname against former two-time world lightweight titlist Alexander on October 20, featured on  Showtime Championship Boxing , live from the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. "Training has been great, everything has gone very well," Bailey said from his Florida training camp. "All I'm focused on is my October 20th fight in New York City. I could have cared less where it was, as long as it wasn't St. Louis (Alexander's hometown)." The assertion by Alexander's manager/trainer,  Kevin Cunningham , that Bailey withdrew from that fight date because he wasn't ready to fight Alexande...

Bailey v Alexander a done deal: Devon unphased by champions power

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor IBF welterweight title bout rubberstamped Randall Bailey has moved swiftly to secure a high-profile fight with former undisputed light-welterweight king Devon Alexander as the new IBF welterweight champion puts his belt on the line for the first time in September. The 37 year-old stunned Mike Jones on the Pacquiao v Bradley undercard by knocking him out with a wonder punch in the eleventh round despite being behind on all three judges’ cards and now gets his wish for a big money contest. Alexander, 25, responded to a call-out from the two-weight world title holder in the immediate aftermath of Bailey’s second world title win and has no fears stepping in to challenge the big-punching ‘KO-King’ on September 8. “The fight is done and I'm excited about it,” Alexander told World Boxing News. “I'm not sure where the fight will take place as of yet, but my thoughts are good about facing him. “Bailey just came off a win on HBO so tha...

Randall Bailey wants the big pay day he feels he deserves

Saturday, July 15 has been named Randall Bailey Day in Key West, Florida. Special festivities honoring Bailey will be held all day, highlighted by a parade through Key West. The Jones fight was extremely emotional for Bailey, who has rarely expressed himself like he did before and after his last fight. He entered the ring wearing a black mask and broke down in the corner before celebrating his victory. "I wore the mask because I felt I'd been invisible for years," Bailey explained. "Nobody saw me before and I wanted to keep it that way. After all of the talk and pressure I put on myself, training and the sacrifices I made, to do what I did, well, it all came out of me after the fight. It wasn't fake." Bailey also clarified speculation about him fighting Devon Alexander on August 25. "Alexander has to get in line like I had to," Bailey stated. "He must think that they can throw around a few bucks and I'll fight him. What I...

Randall Bailey calls out Floyd Mayweather

Newly crowned International Boxing Federation ("IBF") Welterweight World Champion Randall "The Knockout King" Bailey is finally in position of leverage with his third world title belt and a recent "Knockout of the Year" performance against previously unbeaten Mike Jones. Now, it's time for this feared slugger to cash in, after 16 often frustrating years as a professional prizefighter. Bailey (43-7, 37 KOs) would love to welcome Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. when he gets out of jail in a few months but, if the price is right, Randall also wants to make it perfectly clear that he'll fight any deserving 147-pounder in the world. "I've been avoided forever," Bailey said, "but now I'm coming off a world title fight win that ended with a punch people are going to be talking about for a long time. If I had a choice, I'd fight Mayweather next. I like the way Floyd's fighting. He's not running around s...

Dominant Mike Jones stunned by Randall Bailey

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor ‘KO King’ lives up to his name in Las Vegas Randall Bailey produced a stunning stoppage win against Mike Jones at the MGM Grand tonight to pick-up the vacant IBF welterweight title after being dominated for most of a forgettable fight in Las Vegas. Both fighters started off tentatively, with Bailey taking the first round on work-rate alone, before Jones came into the fight from the second round and stamped his authority on the contest to take the centre of the ring. Bailey went into a shell, allowing Jones to bank round after round until the fifth round, when some exchanges brought the fight to life with Jones looking the more assured going into the middle of the fight. Jones, 29, continued to dictate the fight from round six, whilst Bailey waited far too long to get his punches off and ‘MJ’ was able to get inside to go to work with much more ease than the ‘KO King’ should have allowed. In the eighth, a comfortable Jones caught the t...

Randall Bailey confirms Mike Jones IBF title fight

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor ‘The Knock-out King’ set for fifth world title challenge Welterweight veteran Randall Bailey has told WBN that his speculated IBF welterweight title fight against unbeaten Mike Jones should happen in the spring following talk that the number one and two with the IBF would be paired after Andre Berto relinquished the title. The 37 year-old former WBO light-welterweight champion has accumulated 50-fights in a career spanning almost 16-years, holding the title between 1999 and 2000 - before suffering losses to DeMarcus Corley, Miguel Cotto and Juan Urango in failed attempts to regain the world crown. The American’s last attempt was in 2009 and since then, ‘The Knock-out King’ has put three wins together. Bailey will look to inflict Jones’s first defeat in 27 contests when the two meet in the coming months and may well see this as his final chance to be a world champion again. “The bout is going to happen sometime in April for sure,” Baile...
