Mariusz Wach: Doping poured into my system for a long time

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor Polish heavyweight admits career drug use Former world title challenger Mariusz Wach faces a lengthy ban from boxing after the heavyweight giant admitted claims by his last opponent Wladimir Klitsckho that he used steroids were true. The 33 year-old, who went the full twelve rounds with the WBA, WBO and IBF champion in November, was then vilified by Klitschko’s team for his alleged use of steroids, and after originally denying the claim strenuously, has now come clean in an interview with Gazeta Krakowska . "Doping was poured into my system for a long time," Wach stated to the Polish website. "My suspicions fall on the coaches. I plan to conduct my own investigation, but won't make the results public. In addition to the two of my coaches, a large number of other specialists helped me to prepare for the bout. And I really don't know what they've been doing exactly. "I can't name those forbidden substances becau...

Jay  WBN Editor Picture by KMG Pole opens up to WBN on Klitschko allegations Under-fire heavyweight Mariusz Wach has spoken exclusively to World Boxing News as the storm around him and the Klitschko brothers’ management looks set to end up with lawyers on both sides getting involved. The 32 year-old was firstly accused of submitting a positive drugs test after his failed attempt to dethrone heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on November 10, before a second glove-tampering suspicion was added this week. ‘The Viking’ has rigorously denied both accusations and has vowed to fight all the way to prove that he has no intention of gaining an illegal advantage for what was his first challenge at a world title last month. “I have no idea why these allegations have come out,” Wach told World Boxing News. “When it comes to the glove situation, I believe that it was used as a distraction before the fight in the locker room. Mariusz Wach caught up in steroid storm

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor Pole singled out by German newspaper Recent world heavyweight title challenger Mariusz Wach has reportedly tested positive for an anabolic steroid in the wake of his points defeat to Wladimir Klitschko last month. German newspaper Bild has decided to run with the story, and has been backed up by Klitschko’s management team after his A sample came back positive, although his B sample is yet to be confirmed. ‘The Viking’ was undefeated in 27 outings prior to his one-sided WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO title loss and exceeded previous expectations in managing to last the twelve rounds against long-term champion Wladimir. The US-based 32 year-old could now face a lengthy ban from the sport if the allegations are given solid foundation in the coming days, meaning his credible performance in Germany will go without merit.

Klitschko never in danger as Wach challenge falters

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor Champion successful in title defence for late trainer Wladimir Klitschko gave Mariusz Wach a boxing lesson over twelve rounds to score a comprehensive points victory over the previously unbeaten Pole in Hamburg. The 36 year-old, who dedicated this latest victory to the passing of his former trainer Emanuel Steward, came through the contest with ease and was never in danger of even losing a round on my card. The presence of eternal underdog Rocky Balboa, in the form of a performance from the cast of ‘Rocky: The Musical’ and Sylvester Stallone himself, was not enough to spur Wach on as he seemed content to go the distance and prove his toughness. One moment in the fifth round was the only blemish on a faultless win for Klitschko, who was rocked in the last seconds of the session, but recovered in the one minute interval to carry on where he left off. The Ukrainian’s pawing jab and trademark right hand kept Wach busy all night as the...

The 32 year-old, who has knocked out 15 opponents in his seven-year career, also told WBN that he would like to meet former WBA heavyweight champion after witnessing the ‘Hayemaker’ take Dereck Chisora apart in five rounds earlier this month. “My promoter, Mariusz Kolodziej wants me to fight at the end of September and the fight will most likely take place in my native country of Poland,” Wach told World Boxing News. “I'm really excited about it and I can't wait to get in the ring again. “Ideally, I would like to have at least two more fights with some experienced opponents and then I could go for a world championship.
