Schaefer: Garcia v Judah is done for January

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor Light-welterweight clash rubberstamped WBC and WBA light-welterweight champion Danny Garcia will defend his belts against former multi-time world title holder Zab Judah in a bout set to take place at The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer confirmed to WBN that the fight between the 140lb superstars is a done deal and only the venue availability is to be ironed out for the fight to be announced for February 9. Garcia, 24, has had the year of his life after defeating Erik Morales twice and former pound for pound star Amir Khan and could be on his way to the accolade awarded to Andre Ward last year in the coming weeks. 35 year-old Judah has had contrasting fortunes in recent years, but the New Yorker never lies down from a defeat and has once again proved his longevity by clawing his way back to yet another title opportunity. The fight would gain huge interest from the people of Brooklyn after a s...

Judah would receive just $12,500 purse for Peterson IBF challenge

If IBF light-welterweight champion Lamont Peterson and former belt holder Zab Judah meet in their mandated bout later this year they will have to take a hefty pay cut from the purses they normally receive. This week's purse bid attracted just one offer of $50,000 from Headbanger Boxing, the firm run by Peterson's manager and trainer Barry Hunter. As champion Peterson would receive 75 per cent of that figure ($37,500), leaving Judah with just $12,500. Those figures are a far cry from what the two boxers have received in previous bouts but perhaps reflect how their marquee values have fallen. Indeed, despite Peterson being the reigning titlist his reputation has been hit by allegations of drug use in his fight with Amir Khan.

Judah becomes a “super” champion

Phil D. Jay WBN Editor Fourth world title for New Yorker Zab 33 year-old three-time world titleholder Zab “Super” Judah rolled back the years at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, with seventh round stoppage of South African Kaizer Mabuza to claim his fourth world championship and third at 140lbs. Judah (41-6), scored the 28 stoppage of his career to pick up the vacant IBF light-welterweight title after referee Samuel Viruet stepped in as barrage of punches from the southpaw followed a crushing left hand counter that dropped Mabuza and the fight was stopped 59 seconds into the seventh round. Mabuza, 31, showed he was no pushover in the earlier rounds of the contest, putting Judah down in the fourth with a right hand and rocking him in the sixth, but Judah used all of his world title experience to come through any hairy moments and came away victorious. Also on the Newark card, Adrien “The Problem” Broner edged a cagey ten round contest against former WBO...
