Jay  WBN Editor September WBC bout on the cards Ajose Olusegun, the WBC mandatory challenger in the light-welterweight division, is set to accept an offer to fight tough Argentinian Lucas Matthysse for the interim title after awaiting his chance for almost year. The 32 year-old Nigerian, who based himself in the UK, defeated Ali Chebah in a final eliminator last September and had seemingly been overlooked by the WBC as Erik Morales and Danny Garcia avoided the unbeaten fighter. “I don't have to wait for Garcia if he is running scared and doesn't want to fight me. I just want to fight for the title be it against Matthysse for the interim WBC belt,” Olusegun told World Boxing News. Jay WBN Editor ‘The Great’ seals ten round victory in Missouri Former unified light-welterweight champion Devon Alexander got back to winning ways last night as the 24 year-old ground out a tough ten-round decision win over Argentinian hard-man Lucas Martin Matthysse in Saint Charles, Missouri on a huge world title night at the Family Arena. Alexander, who has both held the IBF and WBC titles at 140lbs, scored his 22nd career win in his 23rd contest despite suffering a fourth round knockdown. The American had used his lateral movement to stay away from Matthysse’s power with some success until the first few seconds of the fourth round when Matthysse caught Alexander flat-footed with a straight right hand and dropped him to the canvas. Jay WBN Editor “The Great” gunning to reclaim 140lb titles Former WBC and IBF light-welterweight champion Devon Alexander has begun training as he prepares to take on dangerous Argentinean Lucas Martin Matthysse on June 25th at The Family Arena in St. Louis in what he sees as his first step to reclaiming the 140lb title belts he once possessed. “Training is going great, Alexander told World Boxing News. “ I have just arrived in Colorado and am about go to work. “I know he (Matthysse) is a hard puncher, but I will make sure it’s nothing for me to worry about.
