‘Young Gun’ targets comeback from losses

154lb knockout specialist Tyrone Brunson is refreshed and ready to return to the ring after spending almost a year contemplating his next move following two straight defeats.

The 27 year-old, who caused a stir by knocking out his first 19 opponents in the first round, has had contrasting fortunes since being held to a six-round draw in his 20th outing against Mexican Antonio Soriano.

Two victories followed his first blip, but after running into battle-hardened Carson Jones in December 2009, the exciting prospect's unbeaten run was abruptly ended with a third round stoppage.

A 27-month exile followed for the Philadelphian - and upon his comeback, Brunson was upset again when Mexican James De La Rosa out-pointed him over eight rounds at the Convention Center in Texas.

A re-focused Brunson has now set himself up with a fresh start after penning a deal with new manager Rick Mohamed and is ready to move forward with his career progression after settling his out of the ring issues.

“I would like to inform my boxing fans that Tyrone Brunson is making his way back to the ring,” Brunson told World Boxing News.

“I just want my fans to know that I had some promoter contractual issues that I finally have resolved and I have been in the gym working my ass off to show everyone that I belong in this sport.

“I will be the junior-middleweight champion of the world and I know that I am the peoples Champion!

“I have recently signed with a new management company Brawlers Sports Management Group based out of the DC, VA area and I am working with Rick Mohamed who was Montell ‘Ice’ Griffin’s publicist/manager. He also has worked for David Reid and as you all know, Dave is from my hometown Philly so I trust that he will take Team Brunson in the right direction.

“So far so good as Mr. Mohamed plans on having me fight in either mid February or early March, but whenever that comes I promise one stellar performance for all my fans and critics.

“I want to thank all my fans for there support in my absence from the ring. God Bless - you'll see Young Gunz soon,” he added.

WBN Remembers: "Gypsy Boy" Ernie Smith

Phil D. Jay WBN Editor (picure by boxrec.com) After almost a year and a half without one of boxing’s great journeymen, World Boxing News is looking back at the 161-fight career of Worcestershire warrior Ernie Smith, concentrating on his contribution in the ring, rather than the tragic way his life ended out of it. Smith turned professional at super-featherweight in 1998 at the Park Hall Hotel in Wolverhampton, losing a six rounder against Welshman Woody Greenaway.  One month later, Ernie was thrown in with an unknown prospect by the name of Gavin Rees (former world champion and current British Lightweight Champion) who he also took the distance over four rounds. The “Gypsy Boy” then managed to string together a four fight unbeaten run together in early 1999 and ended the year winning five out of his twelve contests, but by this time had already delved into the journeyman pool of boxers with a record of 5-8-1. After settling at the welterweight limit, Ernie gained a su
