Frank Stea  Senior Reporter In Las Vegas IBF world lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez 32-3 (13KOs) retained his title by winning a unanimous decision over previously undefeated Filipino star Mercito Gesta 26-1-1 (14KOs) In a fight that produced absolutely zero highlights, Vazquez and Gesta unimpressively underperformed for the sold out crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Experience played the major factor in this fight as Vazquez circled to his left the entire fight, distancing himself from his opponent and outboxing Gesta.   Gesta was unable to trap Vazquez or land any significant shots to impress the judges or crowd. Scores of the bout were 119-109, 117-111, 118-110 Vazquez.

The 24 year-old, who started his career at 110lbs, has steadily built up his reputation and now stands on the cusp of a world title challenge, knowing that he can ill-afford any slips ups at this stage of his career. “I don’t really know too much about Barnett, I’ve watched some footage but I leave that to Vince (Parra, manager) and my dad,” Gesta told World Boxing News. “They watch the tapes and we make a plan.
