Sex-change Mike Tyson story proves anyone is vulnerable

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor Celebrities targets of bogus websites The new wave of parody websites, like the one that spoofed a Mike Tyson sex-change story, is capable of duping worldwide websites into believing in stories that have no validity from the outset. Certain sites, which WBN will not name, specifically write untrue stories to gain notoriety and cover their own tracks on slander by adding a tiny small-print at the bottom of the article, which can easily be missed. This was certainly the case when an impossible story of former world heavyweight champion Tyson undergoing a sex-change operation, which included ‘comments’ by the newly-proud female Mike, was mistaken by reputable sites as genuine. Tyson even made a point of clearing up questions asked by baffled reporters from Africa and Aisa in particular, who unbelievably ran with the story as if it had actually gone ahead and the former fighter was now a female. It just goes to show that celeb...

Mike Tyson on Twitter threats: Anybody could kill me

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor Former champion opens up as police hunt tweeter Boxer-turned Broadway star Mike Tyson has admitted that he never thought about the possibility of being hurt when on stage until a crazed anonymous tweeter threatened to open fire at one of his shows. The maniac is now being hunted by police who have subpoenaed the social networking site Twitter to acquire the relevant information to apprehend the culprit, who threatened to do an Aurora-style assault at Tyson’s ‘The Undisputed Truth’ show. The insensitivity of the tweet, which happened just under three weeks’ ago, along with the actual severity of the threat, has prompted Tyson to re-think his own security as he goes about his life and career. "When somebody told me about that, I thought nobody is going to hurt me," Tyson told CBS This Morning . "I'm a different kind of celebrity. I'm out in the open, I'm accessible. Anybody could kill me. I don't have no b...

Tyson: Holyfield’s ear…can I have BBQ sauce on that!

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor Rivals promote ‘Real Deal’ product on anniversary Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield joined forces on the fifteenth anniversary of the infamous ear bite that caused uproar in the boxing world, to promote a new BBQ sauce product with the victim’s name on it. Holyfield, 49, lost a chunk of his lobe to the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ in the incident in 1997, although both men have become fast friends since and used social media site Twitter to make their humorous point.

Holyfield: I wanted to kick Tyson in the balls!

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor Ex-champ speaks out on ear bite years on Evander Holyfield has spoken candidly about his controversial second fight with Mike Tyson, fifteen years on from when ‘The Real Deal’ had the top of his ear bitten off by the former undisputed champion. The 49 year-old, who is still keen on returning to the ring as he approaches his landmark 50th birthday, spoke about the incident in a documentary about him entitled ‘Legends’ and held nothing back when asked how he felt when Tyson gnawed at him in 1997. “I was ticked off. Anything that I could have done, I was getting ready to do it,” said Holyfield in the interview. “My first thought was ‘I am getting ready to chew his ear off!’ because I actually thought he was going to headbutt me or throw an elbow as this is what Tyson does. “When this happened and he bit me on my ear, I jumped up and I turned around and he pushed me, then I could see that he feels like this is the only way he could win. ...

Mike Tyson admits he still has to control his rage

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ says anger may never leave him Former undisputed heavyweight champion ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson has spoken candidly (again) in a recent interview with Telegraph reporter Celia Walden about his attempts to keep his violent tendencies under wraps as he reforms his temperamental character. The 45 year-old, who was the most feared man in the world in the mid-eighties, is currently enjoying a life as a TV celebrity and part-time actor as he leave his fight career behind, ditching the persona that won him fights before he even entered the ring. “That was what I was like back then. I had this rage inside and suddenly I’d lose it,” Tyson explained to Walden. “But I couldn’t be a nice guy and accomplish what I accomplished. I wanted the people who got in the ring with me to think they were dealing with a savage. I wanted them to show me some respect.” Tyson is never shy when it comes to dealing with him demons as he falls...

Tyson: Haye and Chisora would have to go some to beat what I did!

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor Ex-champ dampens Munich brawl One-time Baddest Man on the Planet ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson admits he is more chilled out these days, but still believes that the infamous brawl between David Haye and Dereck Chisora was nothing compared to his antics. The 45 year-old, who is currently starring is his own one-time Las Vegas show entitled; ‘Mike Tyson – the Undisputed Truth,’ was banned from boxing himself for biting off part of Evander Holyfield’s ear in 1997 and admits he brought boxing down with his actions. "What David Haye did in Munich when he had that brawl with Dereck Chisora that was not good.,” Tyson told The Mirror. “That was the kind of stupid stuff I once did - I thought that when I was watching it. No-one did as much as me to bring boxing low. "Haye and Chisora would have to go some to beat what I did. At least Haye didn't bite anyone's ear off.  "They've got to do a bit more to get down to the level I wa...

Tyson: Throw Floyd and Manny in jail until they fight!

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor ‘Iron’ Make has his own plan to make super-fight One-time ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ Mike Tyson is just as frustrated as the millions of fight fans around the world that want to see Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquaio in the ring as soon as possible. The 45 year-old three-time world heavyweight champion told Detroit radio show  WXYT of his tongue-in-cheek suggestion as he feels the boxing public are being robbed of their right to see the best fighters face each other. “Listen if I was President I would throw them in jail if they didn't fight. I'd have them arrested. You can't do that but that's what I would try to do. I'd be like ‘these guys need to get locked up and find a new profession until they get their heads clear,” Tyson explained to WXYT hosts Stoney and Bill. Tyson has participated a range of successful ventures since leaving boxing in 2005, with his role in ‘The Hangover’ franchise and his upcoming one-man L...

Jay  WBN Editor (Picture from mgmgrand.com) ‘Iron’ Mike to bare all in on stage in April Former undisputed world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson plans to share his deepest thoughts with fans when his one-man Las Vegas show kicks off on April 13 th and runs for six nights at the 740-seat Hollywood Theatre on the grounds of the MGM Grand. Tyson: I'd take back the Holyfield thing, well not his ear!

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor Former champ talks to Jill Martin at NY Knicks game Mike Tyson has spoken about his infamous ear-biting incident with Evander Holyfield in an interview with MSG reporter Jill Martin for ‘Live from Celebrity Row’ at a recent New York Knicks basketball game. The 45 year-old former undisputed champion was answering quick-fire questions asked by Martin when she brought up the 1997 fight, which ended when Tyson bit off a chunk of Holyfield’s ear leading to referee Mills Lane disqualifying him. At the Q and A, Martin asked Tyson: “One life do-over (one thing you regret)?” To which Tyson replied: “That ‘ear-thing’ was pretty heavy.” Martin then asked: “You would take it back?” and Tyson quipped: “Yes, well at least not his ear.” The one-time ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ has clearly kept his sense of humour about the act which shocked the world when it originally happened 15-years ago. Several meetings and an ongoing forgiveness and friendship wi...

Danny Williams has to quit after poor Charr showing

Phil D. Jay WBN Editor Easy decision for the former British champ I was under no illusions when former world title challenger Danny Williams announced his German comeback under the new name of DPW on the back of a Latvian boxing license as the Londoner has looked a shot fighter for the best part of four years. The 37 year-old has continued on, and in flashes has looked a decent domestic fighter, but his 2009 Prizefighter defeat to Carl Baker really should have had the alarm bells ringing in Williams’ head. ‘The Brixton Bomber’ returned in March after a ten-month absence with a victory over a man who came in 68lbs lighter than he did and is really a cruiserweight. He followed that up with a first round win over Laszlo Toth, who was overweight and under-classed as a heavyweight and really shouldn’t have been in the ring with Danny. Those two poor victories must have given Williams a delusional thought that he could still cut it on the European heavyweight scene as he then signed ...

Buster Douglas and Mike Tyson get reacquainted after 21 years

Phil D. Jay WBN Editor Old heavyweight rivals help promote fight card Former world heavyweight champions were out in force on Friday night as three-time title holder Mike Tyson met up with former conquerer James ‘Buster’ Douglas to help promote fight nights in Cincinnati. Nate Tubbs, brother of former WBA heavyweight champion Tony, drafted in the pair to help him draw attention to the six-bout card at the Grand Victoria Casino. 44 year-old Tyson and Douglas, 41, met for the first time since 1990, when Douglas became the first man to beat Tyson and made himself a household name in the process. ‘Buster’ would lose the unified titles just eight months later against Evander Holyfield and would subsequently retire for six years, before making an unsuccessful three-year comeback in 1996. Tyson’s fortunes over the years that followed that night in Tokyo have been much publicised since then, but it shows the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ has mellowed over the years and is willing to give...

“Iron” Mike claims the accolade he thought he would never get

Phil D. Jay WBN Editor Tyson earns Hall of Fame Induction honour After dominating the heavyweight scene in the mid to late eighties, Michael Gerard Tyson has finally claimed his rightful place among the greats of the sport of boxing, an honour the youngest ever heavyweight champion thought would never come. Tyson turned pro in 1985 and ripped his way through the heavyweight division with un-nerving viciousness until he claimed the WBC Title as a 20 year-old in 1986, demolishing champion Trevor Berbick in just over five minutes. He unified the heavyweight division within a year, the first man in history to hold three belts simultaneously and defended his titles with the same ferociousness until that fateful night in 1990, when his wild lifestyle caught up on him and his boxing career would never recover. After losing the titles in a controversial fight to James “Buster” Doulgas, a 33/1 underdog, Tyson fought four more times, until his life outside the ring saw him ...

Another easy win for DPW (Danny Williams)

Phil D. Jay WBN Editor “Brixton Bomber” scores first round win, as expected In another apparently pointless exercise, former two-time British heavyweight champion Danny Williams scored the 33rd knockout of his 16-year career, by stopping a disinterested Laszlo Toth in less than a minute of their scheduled ten-round contest in Hamburg. The 37 year-old has continued his career against the wishes of the British Board of Boxing Control on a Latvian boxing license and easily had too much for the Hungarian to improve his record to 43-9. Former Mike Tyson conquerer Williams seems intent on prolonging his career as rumours surfaced after the bout that he will fight again next month against a better opponent. It may not be enough to persuade the BBBC to license Williams in his native country, but if the Londoner can step up his opposition considerably and show he can mix it with some top heavyweight contenders, it may be enough to show the board that they may have been a little hasty in...

Danny Williams lines up German fight double starting Saturday

Phil D. Jay WBN Editor Former Tyson conqueror returns from retirement Danny Williams (41-9-0), returns to the ring on Saturday in Bielefield, Germany after almost a year out the ring since losing to current British and Commonwealth champion Dereck Chisora, in a six-round contest against an un-named opponent, according to Boxrec.com . The former British, Commonwealth and European champion, who famously knocked out Mike Tyson in four rounds in 2004, is taking tentative steps as he returns from a his self-opposed retirement and has another bout lined up on April 8th. Both fights will take place in Germany as the Briton looks to rebuild his career following a poor showing at Prizefighter in October 2009 and his surrender against Chisora in May 2010, with a change of scenary hopefully just what the “Brixton Bomber” needs.

Pacquiao matches Tyson record

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor New light-middleweight champ is PPV powerhouse Manny Pacquiao’s tremendous performance against Antonio Margarito has become his third Pay-Per-View fight in the last three years to exceed one million buys - a record that only the awesome puncher of the 80's and 90’s Mike Tyson can match. Pacquiao, 31, totally out-classed the two-weight world champion Margarito in front of a capacity crowd of 41,000 at the Cowboys Stadium in Texas, picking up his eighth world title in an eighth weight division to cement his place among the greats of the sport. His 2008 retiring of Oscar De La Hoya generated 1.25million buys through HBO PPV, then in 2009, his brutal beating of Miguel Cotto sold 1.2million and the Antonio Margartio mauling netted 1.15million PPV Buys to give Pacquiao a share of the record with the now retired Tyson. According to the figures, Pacquiao’s total PPV buys is over five million in the last five years, proving what a top drawer attra...
