Nigel Benn lines up two more bouts

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor ‘Dark Destroyer’ sets up exhibitions Former two-weight world champion Nigel Benn is set to participate in two more exhibition fights on the back of his charity contest at the MDC Sports Stadium in Hemsworth, West Yorkshire last Sunday. The 48 year-old was a much-loved figure on the British boxing scene in the mid-nineties with some fiery encounters with Chris Eubank and has since turned to God in later life after a wild party lifestyle. It now seems that the Londoner has regained his passion for the ring and will first climb between the ropes on Saturday November 24 at Lancaster and Morecambe College, before another bout on December 15 at Liquid Envy nightclub in Leicester. Frank Harrington will oppose Benn in Morecombe (for tickets ring Frank on 07789 261768 ), whilst former kickboxer Barinder Singh will square up to the ‘Dark Destroyer’ in the run up to Christmas with tickets available on 07521 063038 .

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor ‘Dark Destroyer’ back in the ring for good cause Former world champion Nigel Benn is set to participate in a three round charity bout on Sunday 16th September at the MDC Sports Stadium in Hemsworth, West Yorkshire. The 48 year-old, who retired professionally in 1996, has turned to God after an out of control party lifestyle following the end of his career and now chooses to support those less fortunate than himself. Benn won world titles at two different weight classes in the 1990’s and was once one of the most feared fighters on the planet until Irishman Steve Collins ended his career with two stoppage losses. Local fighters will also appear on the bill alongside Benn's cameo, with former heavyweight Tim Witherspoon scheduled to make a guest question and answer session following the completion of the action. The first boxers will enter the ring at 2.30pm with the main event taking place at 3.30pm. The event is ticket only. Conta...

Nigel Benn: I was twice world champion and still wasn’t happy

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor ‘Dark Destroyer’ finds his true calling in life Two-time world super-middleweight champion Nigel Benn has completed a full circle in his life from his days in a seedy world of fast women and drugs and is now enjoying devoting his time preaching the word of God. It is a far cry from the 48 year-old’s persona of the mean, moody boxer, who’s stare could put fear into a fighter long before they both stepped into the ring, but Benn has admitted that his time as a prizefighter failed to give him the fulfilment he needed. "My life was full of sex, drugs and rock and roll gangsters. I cheated on my wife for 16 years but Jesus changed me and now he is using me to spread his word,” Benn told thisisgrimbsy.co.uk. "Everyone has marital problems but I am here to give them good news. You only get through these problems because of Jesus, there is no other way. If I didn't have him in my life we would have never got through it. We would have g...
