Quillin and Jacobs bolster Garcia v Judah card

Jay  WBN Editor New Yorkers to appear at Barclays Center WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin and former title challenger Danny Jacobs have both been pencilled in to appear on the upcoming Danny Garcia v Zab Judah undercard in Brooklyn, New York. Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer confirmed the news to WBN today, along with dismissing any possibility of a rematch between Quillin and Frenchman Hassan N’Dam at the same venue where the two fought an entertaining battle last October. The Barclays Center bill, which is topped by the grudge match between feuding light-welterweights Garcia and Judah, will be the second huge card to feature at the impressive venue since it’s completion this year. Awesome Danny Jacobs scores massive first round KO

Jay WBN Editor Returning middleweight impresses in Brooklyn Former world middleweight title challenger Danny Jacobs returned from a battle with cancer to score a brutal first round knockout win over Josh Luteran at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Jacobs, 25, last fought in March 2011 and in the interim was diagnosed with a rare form of the disease called osteosarcoma. The American was subsequently told he would never fight again, but has shown amazing powers of recovery which were highlighted even more in New York. The end came after a crushing three-punch combination that culminated in a huge uppercut and left a helpless Luteran on the canvas flat-out, handing Jacobs, now 23-1, a superb comeback win. Earlier in the night, former world welterweight champion Luis Collazo scored a unanimous decision victory over Pennsylvania’s Steve Upsher to improve to 32-5 and get back to winning ways.

The 25 year-old, who has lost just once in 23 bouts, underwent a major operation last year to remove a rare form of cancer and has spent the past twelve months in recovery. ‘The Golden Child’ finally received a formal all clear from doctors this week and is delighted to be able to resume his career on a huge card in Brooklyn. Jay WBN Editor Fourth world title for New Yorker Zab 33 year-old three-time world titleholder Zab “Super” Judah rolled back the years at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, with seventh round stoppage of South African Kaizer Mabuza to claim his fourth world championship and third at 140lbs. Judah (41-6), scored the 28 stoppage of his career to pick up the vacant IBF light-welterweight title after referee Samuel Viruet stepped in as barrage of punches from the southpaw followed a crushing left hand counter that dropped Mabuza and the fight was stopped 59 seconds into the seventh round. Mabuza, 31, showed he was no pushover in the earlier rounds of the contest, putting Judah down in the fourth with a right hand and rocking him in the sixth, but Judah used all of his world title experience to come through any hairy moments and came away victorious.
