Marquez on board for Pacquiao tune-up, eyes separate dates

With Juan Manuel Marquez reportedly deciding to defer his retirement, Manny Pacquiao is due to come out with a blueprint aimed at rebuilding his career as his handlers are finalizing the details of his comeback bout in the second week of April.
According to Esto, the daily Mexican sports paper, Marquez has reconsidered his decision to hang up his gloves after meeting with Fernando Beltran over the weekend, paving the way for his own tune-up fight the week after Pacquiao’s.
The promoters of Pacquiao and Marquez want to spice things up as they are due to fight for a fifth time on Sept. 14 during the height of the celebration of the Mexican Independence.
Even though Marquez has only one win to show in four matches with Pacquiao, the 39-year-old counter-puncher has the upperhand right now owing to the strength of his sixth-round knockout of the Filipino icon.
Two names have cropped up as possible foes for Pacquiao and Marquez: Jessie Vargas of the US and Vyacheslav Senchenko of Ukraine.
Pacquiao adviser Mike Koncz said they’re looking at three sites: Singapore, Macau or Dubai.
Koncz said he will hook up with Top Rank chief Bob Arum this weekend in New York to know what’s down the road.

Derry Mathews willing to offer Scott Harrison title shot

Jay  WBN Editor British champion open to fight with former WBO title holder According to Scott Harrison’s manager Alex Morrison, the Scot has been offered the chance to fight British champion Derry Mathews later in the year. The possbile fight hinges on whether Mathews can come through a rematch with Gavin Rees next month at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield. Morrison is looking to fast-track his fighter to a world title shot in 2013 and sees the Lonsdale belt as an ideal stepping stone for Harrison as he makes his comeback from a seven-year absence. The 34 year-old fights Brahim Bariz in his first fight since 2005 at the end of the month at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow and wants to move as quickly as possible on to a potential shot at a world champion. Harrison held the WBO featherweight title on two occasions in the past and now campaigns at lightweight.
