Jay  WBN Editor Unification overshadows mandatory Despite recent reports to the contrary, world super-middleweight champion Carl Froch can take up one of many options for his next bout, according to chief IBF spokesperson and friend of WBN Jeanette Salazar. The 35 year-old, who was recently named WBN Reader’s Fighter of the Year for 2012, has been constantly linked with a unification clash with WBA title holder Mikkel Kessler and more recently - a mandatory defence against Canadian Adonis Stevenson. WBC “Champion Emeritus” may be forced to retire Former WBC Super-Middleweight Champion Mikkel Kessler has announced that the eye injury that forced him to withdraw from the Showtime Super-Six Tournament doesn’t seem to showing signs of recovery. Kessler pulled out of the Super-Six after complaining of double vision and doctors have told him to expect to be out for up to a year or risk a permanent injury to his eye. “It is still the same. There is no improvement yet. I don’t spar. I do not train hard. I am not in doubt that it will be better. The only question is, when it is going to happen?” said the 31 year-old. “People always say to me “What if you get hit and it starts up again?” “What if you go blind, is it worth it?” and I say “No, its not,” He explained. Jay  WBN Editor Kessler: Injury Eye injury ends WBC Champion’s tournament Mikkel Kesller has been forced to withdraw from Showtime’s Super-Six super-middleweight tournament due to long-suffering eye injury. The 31 year-old Dane, who won the WBC Super-Middleweight Title from Britain’s Carl Froch in April this year, had been suffering with the injury in his previous two Super-Six contests and doctors have now told the WBC Champ that the time is right for complete rest to allow the injury to heal fully. He was due to fight American, Allan Green who replaced the retiring Jermain Taylor in the series next month but may now have to sit out the rest of 2010 and contemplate his next move. It now remains to be seen whether the three-time World Super-Middleweight Champion will be allowed to keep his WBC strap or whether the winner of the Super-Six will then be crowned WBC Champion.
