‘Sugar’ Shane confirms negotiations ongoing
Three-weight world champion Shane Mosley has backed up what
WBA welterweight champion Paul Malignaggi stated to WBN yesterday – that reports
of a fight between the pair being signed and sealed are far from accurate.
The returning Mosley, who initially announced his retirement on the
back of a loss to Saul Alvarez in May of last year, was asked whether his portion of any
protracted deal was official and the American was forthcoming in his response this afternoon.
“Nothing is signed yet. Maybe Golden Boy Promotions and him have
more negotiating to do on their part,” Mosley told World Boxing News.
Mosley, 41, will participate in a 23rd career world title
contest if the deal can be agreed, with a stipulated date of April 27 at the
Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York the target for the high-profile world title clash.
Two-weight title holder Malignaggi had been expecting to
face British legend Ricky Hatton in an eagerly-anticipated rematch, but the 32
year-old was left disappointed when the ‘Hitman’ fell short in his comeback bout.
More news is expected on the probable fight in the coming days.
