Warren claims Groves v N'Diaye purse bid: Chisora return, plus Burns and Cleverly

Groves will get home advantage when he challenges for the title - vacated by previous Groves victim James DeGale - against Ndiaye who's never been stopped in 23 fights. He will feature on a huge show to be announced by Warren on Monday alongside some of his biggest stars' including World Champions Ricky Burns and Nathan Cleverly plus former world title challenger Dereck Chisora.   Regarding Chisora, please by aware that he is in the process of reapplying for his British Boxing Board of Control license and will appear on the show strictly subject to him being successful.

Charr refuses to pimp his record with 'Del Boy' bout: I agree with Haye - Chisora is a loser!

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor Heavyweight contender refuses to face ‘Del Boy’ WBC fringe title-holder Manuel Charr has ruled out taking on Dereck Chisora as the Lebanese fighter hopes to lure David Haye or current full champion Vitali Klitschko in for a clash in 2013. Charr, who has just one loss against Vitali in his 22 bouts, has long been linked with a possible fight with ‘Del Boy’ after both failed to dethrone ‘Dr. Ironfist’ – although the ‘Diamond Boy’ has told WBN he has no interest in any future match-up with the Londoner. "I have to agree with David Haye in what he said even before he fought Chisora that he is a loser,” Charr told World Boxing News. “He is coming off three straight losses now - even four if you include the press conference with Haye in Munich and I'm not interested in beating a guy who has already been beaten by everybody. What's the point? "I'm sure I could knock him out, but I guess we'll never find out because I just don...

Dereck Chisora nears re-licensing for possible Manuel Charr clash

Frank Stea Senior Reporter Former world heavyweight title challenger Dereck Chisora announced last month that he would be returning to the ring in February. The Finchley native has been unusually quiet as of late since his TKO loss to David Haye in July, but has now spoken to WBN to reveal his plans. In 2012, Chisora was involved in a number of controversial incidents surrounding his title challenge against Vitali Klitschko on February 18. An indefinite ban and fine was issued by the World Boxing Council and the BBBofC also withdrew the 28 year old's Londoner’s license to fight. Despite his issues with the WBC and BBBoC, Chisora went on to fight Haye under the sanctioning of both the WBA and WBO, in a bout at Upton Park licensed by the Luxembourg Boxing Federation. 'Del Boy' is already setting his sights on another world title challenge in 2013 after he regains his license in the near future. “I’m not banned," Chisora told World Boxing News." People...

Haye and Chisora ‘squash their beef’ once and for all

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor Britons end feud following entertaining contest All the animosity surrounding the spectacle that was David Haye v Dereck Chisora has now subsided as the two fighters embraced at the end of their pulsating five round contest at Upton Park earlier tonight. Ex-world champion Haye pulled off a spectacular end to the fight by flooring Chisora twice on his way to a 24th stoppage win and both boxers confirmed that they are leaving all the pre-fight shenanigans behind them. “Whatever beef was there prior to the fight I believe is squashed now, well at least from my side and I hope vice versa,” said Haye. “Yes same here,” replied Chisora as the room erupted into applause. “It was a great fight and everything is done now.” Chisora, 28, was humble in his defeat and may now have gained himself a lot more fans for his conduct in the build-up and after the fight and can surely come again after making the fight a good advert for British boxing desp...

Haye betters Vitali with fifth round Chisora stoppage

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor Former champion impresses in London An entertaining battle at West Ham United’s Upton Park ended with just one second left of the fifth round as David Haye scored a devastating stoppage win over Dereck Chisora. The two-weight world title holder, who was returning from a semi-retirement and a year out, put the never before floored Chisora on the canvas twice, with the Finchley fighter failing to recover from the second knockdown. Haye, 31, looked in control for most of the bout, with the out-classed Chisora having his best success in the third, when rocking the Bermondsey man momentarily towards the end of the round. The first two rounds were more cagey and the fight never really opened up the way Haye wanted it to until after Chisora had his best spell, with the ‘Hayemaker’ taking full advantage of his weaker defence from the fourth round. The signs were there for the former WBA champion that Chisora was more open and in the fifth, w...

Chisora: I just want to punch Haye - no boxing, just fighting!

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor ‘Del Boy’ says clash won’t be pretty Former world heavyweight title challenger Dereck Chisora is planning on scrapping with David Haye for the duration of their grudge bout on Saturday night and doesn’t see any need to box the one-time world champion. Chisora is looking to get back to winning ways following a disappointing twelve months this weekend at Upton Park and following their public brawl in February, ‘Del Boy’ says the two will just pick up where they left off. "I'm going to give you a great fight," said Chisora at yesterday’s conference call, which incidentally, Haye slept through. "I'll take nothing away from David Haye, he comes in in great shape, he trains hard. Two great athletes in that ring and we'll see what will happen. "I like to give it my all, I like to be tired after my own fight, I want to push myself to boundaries I've never been before. "It's a fight. I'm not lo...

Chisora and Charles split rumours quickly quashed

Following the premier of  Haye/Chisora: Beyond The Ropes  on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 456/Virgin Ch. 546), a story came out regarding an altercation that took place in the gym between Dereck Chisora and his trainer Don Charles. The altercation did happen in Chisora's gym in Finchley, but the pair resolved their differences soon after and are now working hard towards the big heavyweight fight at West Ham United on Saturday 14th July. Charles, who has trained Chisora to British and Commonwealth titles and a WBC World title challenge, has been associated with Chisora for ten years and the pair have a close and intense, but successful relationship. Chisora said, “This has been made out to be a big deal because people don’t see what goes on behind the gym doors which is why the BoxNation Beyond The Ropes show will give viewers unbelievable access to the fight.  We are always arguing and rowing ahead of fights, it’s nothing new.  When a fight as big as this again...

Trainer Charles attacks Chisora, unsure on cornering for Haye fight

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor ‘Del Boy’ camp in disarray with two weeks to go Dereck Chisora and his coach Don Charles have been embroiled in a punch-up in the gym as they prepared together to face former WBA champion David Haye on July 14th at Upton Park in a heavyweight grudge match. Charles, who has been with Chisora for a decade, revealed the spat in a recent interview and is now estranged from the one-time British champion, with no word as to whether he will be welcomed back into the camp. “I won’t go into the details as to why he wanted his head gear off and there’s a way to tell someone something and it’s called respect,” Charles told BoxNation , who will show the fight live next month. “I’m not a nutter. He asked me to take his head gear off and I physically attacked him. “It’s the worst thing that’s happened since I’ve been with him and I’ve been with him for 10 years; I’m like a father to him. “There is no father around. He’s the man in his house s...

Chisora attends Price v Sexton, almost gets kicked out!

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor ‘Del Boy’ causes stir at heavyweight bout Former British champion Dereck Chisora surprisingly turned up at David Price’s fight with Sam Sexton for his old title tonight and almost ended up being booted out before he got to see the two take to the ring. The 28 year-old, who fights David Haye on July 14 th in a domestic grudge match, made the trip to Liverpool to take in the much-anticipated contest at the Aintree Equestrian Centre and a tongue-in-cheek stunt was close to ending his night early. Frank Warren-promoted ‘Del Boy’ turned up to the Sky Sports televised bout sporting a BoxNation t-shirt and attempted to enter the fighters' dressing rooms before security threatened to eject the former world title challenger from the building. Chisora then talked his way out of it when he put on a jacket and added to the tension of the night as the two fighters prepared to take to the ring. The incident represents another flashpoint for Chis...

Chisora talks brawl and explains why Mayweather v Pacquiao won't happen

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor ‘Del Boy’ predicts super-fight will collapse British heavyweight Dereck Chisora has more time on his hands of late following the British Board of Boxing Control’s decision to revoke his boxing licence last month. The 28 year-old is now weighing in on other issues in the sport as he seeks to keep his name in the media until the BBofBC decides to allow him to renew his career. Asked by RT.com whether he felt any emotion about the incident that cos him his right to box in Britain, Chisora replied: “Emotions can never help you fight anything. “I don't know, maybe for other fighters it does, but for me – no. I do it because I enjoy it and there's no emotion in it. Everything I do, I do because I enjoy it.” Chisora was then asked about the Mayweather v Pacquiao situation after admitting that he sees Floyd Jr. as the best fighter on the planet, to which he pronounced:  “That fight is never, ever gonna happen because they make more mon...

'Disappointed' Chisora plans to re-apply for license

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor ‘Del Boy’ heading back to the gym Heavyweight Dereck Chisora will head back to training in the wake of his ban by the British Boxing Board of Control and plans to re-apply for his revoked license in the near future. The 28 year-old, who had his license to box within the UK withdrawn yesterday, told tabloid newspaper The Sun , that the decision to take away his right to box in Britain has hit him hard. "I'm bitterly disappointed my licence to box was taken away by the board. Right now I am an ex-professional unable to earn a living,” said Chisora. "There is no time limit on how long the board plan to keep me from fighting but at the same time, I understand I can re-apply for my licence at any time as well. "My dream has always been to win the world heavyweight title and of course the punishment dished out is a big setback to me achieving those aims. "But I will be back in the gym even though I do not know when ...

Chisora's license withdrawn, Haye warned: Full statement from the BBofBC

Dereck Chisora has had his boxing license revoked by the British Board of Boxing Control after a hearing in Cardiff as revealed in a statement by secretary Robert Smith released this evening.  Below is the full statement regarding the actions taken: 'The British Boxing Board of Control deplore what occurred at the weigh-in, in the ring before the contest commenced and at the post contest Press Conference in respect of the World Heavyweight Championship contest between Vitali Klitschko and Dereck Chisora. Such behaviour brought the Sport of Boxing, the British Boxing Board of Control and all licence holders into disrepute. Dereck Chisora, on his own admission, did not behave in a manner consistent with that of a Professional Boxer and let down, not only himself and his family, but, also, all those licence holders who behave in a professional manner. The Stewards of the British Boxing Board of Control want to make it absolutely clear that such behaviour...

Sugar Ray Leonard wades in on Dereck Chisora punishment

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor Four-weight champ says Briton must face consequences Former welterweight king ‘Sugar’ Ray Leonard has criticized Dereck Chisora for his controversial actions in Germany last month when the world heavyweight title challenger slapped, spat and brawled his way through a fight with Vitali Klitschko in Munich. The American, who was involved in some of the great fights of the eighties against Hagler, Hearns and Duran, sees a fit punishment needed as Chisora gives his side to the BBofBC today and wants a tough stance taken by the board. "Boxing takes enough black eyes as it is and to not reprimand the guy for doing that is one thing - but also to spit in someone’s face? - Should he be banned for life? No, but you hurt them where it hurts, money. You take something away,” Leonard told talkSPORT. Chisora, 28, is giving his side of the story after being summoned by the British authorities and could face a ban or a hefty fine – or both, for his sl...

Chisora WBC ban makes no sense

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor ‘Del Boy’ given harsh treatment The WBC have moved to ban British heavyweight Dereck Chisora from fighting for their title until he completes and anger management course, whilst they keep jail-pending champion Floyd Mayweather as their welterweight title holder. Chisora, 28, was already fined by the WBC for his actions against Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko, along with brawling in the media room post-fight with David Haye - for which he was questioned by police and released without charge. I think it is a bit hypocritical for the body to ban Chisora and then act ten days after the fight when the sensationalism has died down. Their actions have only added more fuel to the fire and kept the stories running in my view whilst labelling the Briton for the ‘worst behaviour’ ever seen in a WBC title fight. Vitali Klitschko was already planning to dish out his own means of punishment with a knockout win in a rematch but the WBC’s sanctions may no...

Haye: No desire to fight Chisora

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor ‘Hayemaker’ rules out British bout Two-weight world champion David Haye, speaking at an appearance on ‘That Sunday Night Show’ on UK TV, has ruled out any future fight with rival Dereck Chisora following the pair’s brawl in Munich last week. The 31 year-old, who retired from professional boxing last October, had been linked to a multi-million pound clash against the former British and Commonwealth champion after the pair went toe-to-toe at the Klitschko v Chisora post-fight press conference, but has now moved to rule out the fight. "I've got no desire to fight Dereck Chisora inside the ring or outside the ring. He's lost his last three fights,” stated Haye to host Adrian Chiles. "If I could rewind time, of course I wouldn't go down there (to Munich). But you can't rewind time." Haye also commented on the brawl by saying: "He comes over to me, in my face, I feel his knuckles in my face, what am I supp...

Hearn: Chisora fight won’t happen, Haye is a PR disaster!

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor Matchroom promoter says no interest in all-British clash Eddie Hearn says Daivd Haye should have never stepped foot in Munich as the former two-weight world champion caused controversy by firstly, calling out Vitali Kklitschko and then publicly scuffled with former British title holder Dereck Chisora. The Matchroom Sport supremo, who looks after the interests of the likes Kell Brook, Darren Barker and Carl Froch, is of the belief that a heavyweight super-fight between the two Brits would not be sufficient enough to bring the ‘Hayemaker’ out of retirement. “I’m not sure Haye will want a media run-up and fight with Dereck Chisora,” Hearn told The Daily Star on Sunday. “The only way he would come out of retirement is for millions of pounds and there’s no demand for a fight with Chisora that is going to generate that sort of money. “Perhaps Vitali might fight David but I’m not sure that will generate the sort of money he is used to now. “David sh...

Dereck Chisora official statement on Munich brawl

Following the extensive media coverage that my WBC World Heavyweight title challenge against Vitali Klitschko in Munich at the weekend has attracted, I feel I must wholeheartedly apologise for my part in the regretable scenes both before and after what was to be the biggest night of my career. Whilst my behaviour was inexcusable, there were many things that went on behind the scenes that ultimately caused my frustrations to boil over, however this is of course no excuse.  I cannot go into the specific details at the moment as quite rightly the British Boxing Board of Control will be investigating this matter and also the altercation that took place between David Haye and myself where I was struck by a bottle. Despite all of this, the bottom line is, I have let my family, my team and worst of all the sport I love down. I acknowledge that my actions were totally unprofessional, with or without provocation. Now, with a cool head and the benefit of hindsight, my actions at the w...

Wladimir: Chisora behaviour won't be tolerated

Wladimir Klitschko Dear friends, I am shocked and deeply embarrassed by the actions of Dereck Chisora and his team over this past week. It saddens me how he represented the sport of boxing and disrespected the champion of the world Vitali Klitschko at the weigh-in and fight night.  But even more embarrassing and disgraceful to the sport was the post fight press conference.  With journalists from all over the world in attendance, this same man Dereck Chisora, got into a fight with Adam Booth, the trainer of David Haye, and David Haye himself. Dereck then promised out loudly multiple times right in front of the press to "personally SHOOT AND KILL David Haye!!!"  For all of the great Champions from the past that have been polishing the image of the sport of boxing and giving it the glamour, respect and recognition while setting a good example for the youth of the world to follow, this type of behavior kills all that hard work from the former champs and teaches di...

Chisora and Haye stand to make millions from fracas

Phil D. Jay  WBN Editor Brawl increases interest in British battle The late-night punch-up between British heavyweights Dereck Chisora and David Haye in Munich on Saturday night is set to make both fighters millions if they decide to meet in the ring pending any punishments dished out. The British Boxing Board of Control have issued a statement today which indicates possible sanctions will be handed out to 28 year-old Chisora, who instigated the mass brawl at the weekend after first slapping, and then losing to Vitali Klitschko for the world heavyweight title. Speculation is rife that a life-time ban will be laid on the Londoner but in my opinion this won’t happen and once ‘Del Boy’ serves whatever ban/fine that comes his way, the former British champion stands to benefit royally from his actions in Germany. Haye, 31, is still wanted for questioning by police, although his whereabouts are currently unknown and the WBA champion may have to deal with the Munich c...
