Four-weight champ says Briton must face consequences
Former welterweight king ‘Sugar’ Ray Leonard has criticized
Dereck Chisora for his controversial actions in Germany last month when the
world heavyweight title challenger slapped, spat and brawled his way through a
fight with Vitali Klitschko in Munich.
The American, who was involved in some of the great fights
of the eighties against Hagler, Hearns and Duran, sees a fit punishment needed
as Chisora gives his side to the BBofBC today and wants a tough stance taken by
the board.
"Boxing takes enough black eyes as it is and to not
reprimand the guy for doing that is one thing - but also to spit in someone’s
face? - Should he be banned for life? No, but you hurt them where it hurts, money.
You take something away,” Leonard told talkSPORT.
Chisora, 28, is giving his side of the story after being
summoned by the British authorities and could face a ban or a hefty fine – or both,
for his slap on Vitali, spit at Wladimir and brawl with David Haye in Munich
last month.
31 year-old Haye will not face any further action for his
part at his is no longer accountable to the British Board of Boxing Control
after his boxing license expired last year and has not yet been renewed
following Haye’s retirement in October.
