Irish title challenger working hard for Rogan
Former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Tyson
Fury is to battle his way down to 248lbs from his last fighting weight of
257lbs after admitting he still doesn’t like what he sees when he watches his
fights back.
The 23 year-old, who battles Martin Rogan on April 14 for the
Irish heavyweight title, was tipping the scales at over 260lbs for the majority
of his career until he made a significant change prior to defeating Dereck
Chisora by cutting out all junk food.
That brought his weight down considerably as he dropped
around a stone in just over a year and with the help of a new nutritionist team,
intends to shed at least another half a stone before his fights at the Odyssey
Arena in Belfast next month.
“I am embarrassed every time I look at myself in my last couple
of fights,” Fury told The Express.
“Now that fat kid is gone, everyone will see the huge
difference that has taken place under my new coach and with the expertise of
the Body Fuel team in Liverpool.
“I feel like a new fighter. My diet has been totally
overhauled and I’ll be tipping the scales at about 17st 10lbs. I can’t wait to
take off my dressing gown as you will all be able to see the new me.”
Rogan, 40, has more or less talked himself into a match-up
with Fury after a couple of years of obscurity and 6ft 9ins Fury has no doubts
that the bout will be entertaining whilst it lasts with him fulfilling his dream of lifting the Irish belt.
“Rogan is a tough old bruiser and nothing will be easy
against him – but it will be explosive and just like my last two bouts. Don’t
blink,” he added.
