Jay  WBN Editor ‘The Rebel’ out of December 1 clash Undefeated ex-Prizefighter champion Mike Perez has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming acid test against former world title holder Ruslan Chagaev in Germany after injuring his shoulder, according to promoter Felix Sturm. The heavyweight contest was due to take place at the Burg-Waechter Castello in Dusseldorf and it is not yet known whether a replacement will be called up at late notice to oppose one-time WBA champion Chagaev. Perez, 27, is currently touted as one of the best prospects around in the top division, although the southpaw has fought just twice in the 18 months since claiming the Prizefighter – Internationals crown in May 2011.

Jay  WBN Editor ‘White Tyson’ dispatches journeyman Former WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev improved to 30-3 with his third straight victory in Oberhausen tonight after putting an out-of-depth Werner Kreiskott on the canvas three times on his way to a seventh round victory. The 33 year-old, who has been linked to a clash with unbeaten Tyson Fury in November, had no trouble hurting the 18-loss Kreiskott from early on in the contest and with two knockdowns in the fifth, the writing was on the wall. A heavy shot by southpaw Chagaev early in the seventh proved to be the finisher and the Uzbek can now move on to some tougher challenges as he seeks a fourth career world title shot. Also on the card, Nadia Raoui successfully defended her WIBA flyweight title with a unanimous decision win over Sampson Buamas, whilst Maurico Reynoso and Patrick Dobroschi overcame their respective foes.

Jay  WBN Editor ‘White Tyson’ in eight rounder Former WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev will attempt to set up possible match-up with unbeaten Tyson Fury on Saturday night when the Uzbek fights an eight-rounder in Oberhausen, Germany. The 33 year-old, who defeated Nikolai Valuev, Matt Skelton and Carl Drumond in his only reign as world title holder between 2007 and 2009, is currently being pursued by Fury for a November date and must beat his as yet unnamed opponent this weekend. Chagaev aims to secure his third straight victory since losing a closely fought world title test against current belt holder Alexander Povetkin in August 2011 and will no doubt be the step-up Fury needs if they can reach an agreement. Fury, 24, is looking to raise his opposition to the highest level following a 19-fight undefeated winning streak and can boast a twelve round decision win over an out-of-shape Dereck Chisora in 2011 as his biggest career win to date. Illness could scupper Uzbeki fighter’s chances The World Boxing Association has placed a mandatory challenge on record for heavyweight champion David Haye, which the “Hayemaker” must follow through by April 3rd. Haye, 30, must defend against number one contender Ruslan Chagaev before the given date, or he may be stripped of his title as he tries to negotiate with the Klitschko brothers for a unification bout in the spring. Chagaev came through his WBA Title eliminator against American Travis “Freight Train” Walker last week and now hopes to get the Haye fight made even though he has been advised not to fight in his current condition. The 32 year-old was diagnosed with Hepatitis B in 2009 but has fought three times since, as it seems his level of the disease is currently low and there is no risk of him passing it on during a fight.
