Filipino Congressman faces scrutiny over returns
Manny Pacquiao is facing an investigation into his tax
returns over allegations that the WBO welterweight champion failed to provide
all the documents needed to the Philippine tax authorities.
The 33 year-old, who has held titles in eight weight
divisions, is now awaiting a decision from the prosecutors as to whether the case
will be brought to court for a penalty that carries a two-year prison term.
Rozil Lozares, a spokesman for the Bureau on Internal
Revenue, noted that the original charges date back to March 1 when Pacquiao
failed to provide the information needed despite three warnings and a subpoena.
A decision is due soon on whether criminal proceedings will
be brought against the ‘Pacman,’ who is currently inbetween fights as he gears
up to fight Timothy Bradley on June 9th in Las Vegas.
