Mariusz Wach caught up in steroid storm

Pole singled out by German newspaper

Recent world heavyweight title challenger Mariusz Wach has reportedly tested positive for an anabolic steroid in the wake of his points defeat to Wladimir Klitschko last month.

German newspaper Bild has decided to run with the story, and has been backed up by Klitschko’s management team after his A sample came back positive, although his B sample is yet to be confirmed.

‘The Viking’ was undefeated in 27 outings prior to his one-sided WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO title loss and exceeded previous expectations in managing to last the twelve rounds against long-term champion Wladimir.

The US-based 32 year-old could now face a lengthy ban from the sport if the allegations are given solid foundation in the coming days, meaning his credible performance in Germany will go without merit.

The 31 year-old, who has fought some of the top fighters between 140 and 154lbs, planned to take 18 months out of chasing his world title dream to win a British Lonsdale belt outright and just fell short with points defeat to Hamilton in May after making two defences. The Londoner is now returning to the US to re-establish his headline status on American soil.
