Undefeated WBA interim middleweight champion Martin Murray 25-0-1 (11KOs) gets the opportunity of a lifetime on April 27th in Buenos, Aires, Argentina as he faces pound for pound star and current WBC champion Sergio 'Maravilla' Martinez.

Murray heads into very hostile environment fighting in the Argentine champion’s hometown as the country isn't mainly known for its fine dining establishments, but has tended to dish out some of the best home cooking in the past when it comes to judging boxing.

The St. Helens native plans to bring an extra luggage bag on the 27th of April just so he can take back home a souvenir from Argentina in the form of the WBC world middleweight championship.

“It’s a great opportunity for me as I’ve been struggling to get fights," Murray told World Boxing News.

"I’ve stated that if the deal is right, I’ll go anywhere and fight anybody.  I’m a fighter and that’s what I do. I’m just thankful for the opportunity.

“Even though it is over in Argentina, I’m looking forward to going over there and showing the world what I am all about. “

With the fight scheduled over five months out due to Martinez’ recent knee surgery to hand him allotted time to recover, Martin shared his thoughts on any possible advantages he feel he may have going into his championship battle.

“I have to honest with you. Going into every fight I treat my opponents like they are going to be the best they can possibly be and that’s how I look at Martinez.

"Fair enough he is coming off of an injury, there is no saying that it will affect him come fight night. We won’t be relying on that. We know we can go over there and beat him at his best.

“I have a great team behind me and I’m going to be a massive underdog, but we are all pretty confident going into this fight. We are not going over there to lose.

“I have to take my hat off to Martinez for picking me as an opponent. I’m no easy nights work for anyone. He’s going to have his hands full.

“Getting a knockout will obviously help being the fight is in Argentina but I will find a way to win. I will win one way or another. I’m ready to go over there and shock the world. I want everybody to tune in and watch me do it.”

WBN Remembers: "Gypsy Boy" Ernie Smith

Phil D. Jay WBN Editor (picure by boxrec.com) After almost a year and a half without one of boxing’s great journeymen, World Boxing News is looking back at the 161-fight career of Worcestershire warrior Ernie Smith, concentrating on his contribution in the ring, rather than the tragic way his life ended out of it. Smith turned professional at super-featherweight in 1998 at the Park Hall Hotel in Wolverhampton, losing a six rounder against Welshman Woody Greenaway.  One month later, Ernie was thrown in with an unknown prospect by the name of Gavin Rees (former world champion and current British Lightweight Champion) who he also took the distance over four rounds. The “Gypsy Boy” then managed to string together a four fight unbeaten run together in early 1999 and ended the year winning five out of his twelve contests, but by this time had already delved into the journeyman pool of boxers with a record of 5-8-1. After settling at the welterweight limit, Ernie ga...
