‘Hollewood’ in a bad way following Tony Valdez loss

New Mexico fighter Raymond ‘Hollewood’ Montes is being cared for in hospital after being knocked unconscious in his rematch with Tony Valdez on the undercard of Holly Holm v Diana Prazak on Friday night.

The 27 year-old, who lost for the third time in nine fights to Valdez at the Route 66 Casino in Albuquerque, was taken out of the ring on a stretcher after the seventh round stoppage and his condition was initially summarised as ‘critical’ by FightNews.com’s Chris Cozzone.

Cozzone reported that Montes had suffered bleeding on the brain, although the American did regain consciousness and is ‘improving mentallly’ with surgery still a possibility.

The bantamweight had fought out a credible draw with Valdez, 31, over six rounds in September to set up the second bout, but it is now hopeful the Montes makes a complete recovery from his injuries.
