January 9 bid date set to pass without offer
Tyson Fury is looking ahead to a world title fight and will
not be taking up the British Boxing Board of Control’s offer to place a purse
bid in order to challenge British heavyweight champion David Price.
According to the highly-ranked unbeaten fighter’s uncle and
trainer Peter Fury, the period of negotiations between the two rivals for a
grudge match is over and the fight is off the table for the immediate future.
“I don’t expect anything to happen regarding this January 9th
purse bid,“ Fury told World Boxing News. “Tyson is going to move on to a world
title in the near future and has a fight in America already lined-up.
“In my opinion this fight will not happen and we are looking forward,” he added
Price’s promoter Frank Maloney issued a plea to Fury’s
representative Mick Hennessy earlier this week to negotiate a deal in private
after public spats between both camps have soured any possibility of an agreement for
the past few months.
It now looks like the eagerly-anticipated fight is on the
backburner for Team Fury, who are looking to secure a high-profile US heavyweight
for Tyson’s American debut in New York on March 17 of next year.
