‘Hitman’ says ‘Pacman’ can do no more
Ricky Hatton is now content in his retirement after leaving professional
fighting behind him on the back of his loss to Vyacheslav Senchenko last month
and now believes former opponent Manny Pacquiao should join him.
Hatton watched on last Saturday as Pacquiao was laid out by Juan Manuel Marquez in
similar fashion to himself, ironically against the Filipino, and now thinks the
time is right for the multi-weight champion to hang up his gloves and enjoy his
retirement.
"The only advice I could give Manny Pacquiao is that
his legacy is already secured," stated Hatton form Hong Kong, where is
currently promoting an event. “The thing is with us fighters is that there is
always one more fight.
"What's he going to achieve by having one more fight?
Probably nothing. He's an eight-weight world champion and there's nothing more
to be said.
"You'd like to see him go into retirement and spend
some time with his family and be happy. He can't do any more from a boxing
point of view."
On his own chances of getting back in the ring in the
future, Hatton was pretty blunt in his response: "I won't be fighting
again. I got what I wanted from my comeback even though it ended in a defeat. I
needed to find out if I still had it, and I haven't got it, and I can move on
now," he confirmed.
Pacquiao, 33, is already deeply emerged in politics in his
home country and had discussed the possibility of taking stock of his career in
late 2013 before the knockout. It now remains to be seen whether that may
happen any sooner as calls are heard for a fifth fight with Marquez.
