Lightweight contender Kieran Farrell has been sitting up and is coherent in the wake of his points defeat to Anthony Crolla in Manchester, according to Boxing Ireland's Leonard Gunning.

The 22 year-old, who lost for the first time to the former British champion in an English title battle, had the boxing world pulling for him after collapsing with exhaustion following a gritty battle with Crolla at Bowlers.

Lightweight prospect Farrell is to be kept in hospital for observation reasons.
