Poonsawat challenge called off
Saturday night’s WBA super-bantamweight title bout between
title holder Guillermo Rigondeaux and Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym has
been cancelled amidst problems with submitted blood tests by the challenger.
The two were due to square-off at the Toyota Center in
Houston as chief support to Nonito Donaire’s WBO title defence in the same division,
although the clash was halted on Thursday leaving Rigondeaux with no choice but
to pull out of the show.
The full scale of the tests submitted by the 32 year-old Thai fighter
have not yet been disclosed and it is also a mystery as where this leaves the former
two-weight belt holder in terms of resuming his career.
Rigondeaux, also 32, has already fought three times in 2012,
improving his unbeaten record to 11-0 and the Cuban may look to reschedule a
defence for early next year to get back on track for a shot at headliner Donaire
himself.
