N’Dam coach proposes triangular series with Quillin and Pirog

Ouicher awaits favourable WBO decision

The trainer of former WBO middleweight champion Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam is still seething at the way his fighter was treated in the build up to losing his world title belt to American Peter Quillin.

N’Dam, 28, was notified just a few weeks before his mandatory title defence against ‘Kid Chocolate’ that he had to accept the fight or be stripped, all this coming in a very short period since his reign began. The Frenchman and his coach Mustapha Ouicher are now seeking new representation as they remain hopeful of a ruling from the WBO and have revealed to WBN that the organisation a reacting positively to their advances.

“I am pleasantly surprised to know that the President of the WBO has taken seriously our claim and notes that the result of the fight between Quillin and Hassan is not clear on these conditions,” Ouicher told World Boxing News.

“The WBO President has shown in the past that he is capable of making good decisions and as we still consider Dmitry Pirog the champion (after he was stripped handing N’Dam the belt), we feel that the last two champions have been the victims of an injustice through errors.

“I truly believe that the WBO can show the world it’s credibility in this unfortunate event by accepting our proposal for a triangular series involving Hassan, Pirog and the new title holder Quillin.

“The pugilistic world wants real fights, to designate true champions, who are not fighting against opponents who are not capable of holding the title.

“Why not order a Quillin v Hassan rematch instead of allowing a potential victim boxer to fight on February 9?

“I sincerely hope that the WBO has a solution to this problem involving Hassan N’Dam and Dmitry Pirog as we consider there being three champions and we finally need to know the true WBO champion.

Ouicher then added: “I can also confirm that Hassan and I are currently free from a promotional contract and we are open to all proposals.”

Quillin, 29, is lining up his first title defence against Fernando Guerrero at the Barclays Center on February 9 and the best N’Dam could now hope for is an eliminator against Pirog or another top-ranked contender until the summer at the very least.

Ashley Theophane talks US return, Ricky Burns sparring and future fights

WBO #4 Orlando Cruz comes out as the first openly gay boxer in history
