Champion retains title at MGM Grand
WBC super-bantamweight title holder Toshiaki Nishioka set up
a possible defence against unified bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire after
securing his belt for the sixth time in Las Vegas against Mexican Rafael
Marquez.
The 35 year-old scored his 39th career win in 46
contests with a unanimous decision triumph as the judges gave him the bout 117-111, 116-112 and 115-113 to improve his Nevada record to
three out of three.
Also on the MGM Grand bill, Roman Gonzalez retained his WBA light-flyweight title with a second round stoppage win over Omar Soto. The 24
year-old two-weight world champion had too much power for the older Mexican and
took him out with minimal fuss early in the second session.
