Fight legend loving boxing career so far
Street-fighter Kimbo Slice fights for the second time as a
professional boxer later this month amidst mass hysteria over his boxing debut
when the former MMA star knocked out James Wade in the opening seconds whilst
carrying a knee injury.
The 37 year-old fights Tay Bledsoe (2-3 2 KO’s) in Nebraska
on the 15th of October and should not have any problems improving
his record to 2-0 at the Heartlands Event Center.
Talk of world title fights is far from the Bahaman-born
fighter’s mind though and Kimbo, real name Kevin Ferguson, told World Boxing
News that he is just taking one contest at a time until his promoter Gary Shaw
is ready to step him up in class.
“I’ve been training hard for my next fight,” Slice told World Boxing News.
“You know as far as titles are concerned I'm really not
sure. I guess that would be up to my promoter and trainer.
“All I know is that I have a lot of work to do until I reach
that level but I am loving boxing and I am loving the work.”
Slice has given himself no deadlines to reach title level
and judging by his first two opponents, the Floridian is taking babysteps into
boxing as he gets used to the rigours of being a professional boxer.
The interest in Slice as a commodity though is intense and fans
are already taking about a possible future bout with undisputed heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.
A bout with the Ukrainian is a long way away for the backyard brawler but there is no doubt that it will be an interesting ride to see if Slice can hone his skills enough to reach the top of the sport.
