Esch fights Allan at Horseshoe after two-year absence
Knockout specialist Eric ‘Butterbean’ Esch will step inside
the prize-fighting ring for the 90th time in his professional career
on Friday night as he takes on nine-fight novice Curt Allen at the Horseshoe
Casino in Indiana.
The 45 year-old former super-heavyweight champion last
fought in October 2009 when controversially losing a four-rounder to Harry
Funmaker via a split decision in the pairs third meeting, suffering his first
loss to Funmaker and will be gunning for his 59th career knockout against
Kentucky-born Allan, 47.
Esch, who went ten-rounds with an aging Larry Holmes in the ‘Easton
Assassin’s’ final fight in 2002, met Allan in 1997, stopping him in three
rounds and will look for a similar result this weekend.
