‘Hayemaker’ set to walk away from boxing
Two-weight world champion David Haye is to announce his
retirement from boxing today on his 31st
birthday as promised.
The Londoner is expected to put an end to speculation of his
future once and for all but is expected to leave a return fight with Wladimir
Klitschko or his brother Vitali open.
Rumours that the former undisputed cruiserweight champion
could return to his former weight or even remain at heavyweight to fight the
likes of Alexander Povetkin or Tomasz Adamek are to be dismissed by Haye as he
begins a life without boxing.
The ‘Hayemaker’ has always stated that he will return for a
fight with either Klitschko and his trainer/manager Adam Booth is set to
remain in contact with the Ukrainian’s management over a potential fight in
2012 according to the Klitschko's manager Bernd Boente.
The Bermondsey star fought 27 times in his nine-year stint winning British, European and world titles at cruiserweight before stepping up
to beat 7ft giant Nikolai Valuev in 2009 in his defining night to be crowned
world heavyweight champion.
Haye, 31, lost just twice in his impressive career, once to
Carl Thompson in an IBO title challenge in 2004 and then in his last bout with
Wladimir Klitschko in July and may now move into the world of acting if one final encore in 2012 fails to materialize.
