‘The Great’ ponders next move after scoring another world
title

Newly-crowned IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander is contemplating
his next fight in the wake of his comprehensive points win over Randall Bailey
on Saturday night in Brooklyn.
Alexander, 25, claimed his third world title at two
different weights in the process, putting himself right in the mix to claim a lucrative
fight against some of the top fighters in the world next year.
On the same night in Sheffield though, undefeated Kell Brook
made himself the mandatory challenger to Alexander’s crown and hopes to now
seal a world title fight with ‘The Great’ in the US or the UK.
WBN caught up with Alexander to ask him if he would be
facing the IBF’s number one contender in his next bout and what he made of
Brook’s impressive stoppage win over Hector Saldivia at the Motorpoint Arena.
“I didn't see the fight and I barely know Kell Brooks,”
Alexander told World Boxing News.
“We will see what my advisor Al Haymon and my trainer Kevin
Cunningham come up with. Right now, I'm not even worried about Kell Brooks because
I barely know him and who is he anyway?
“I never saw him fight before so I can't rate him, but maybe
he can be used as a tune up.
“Right now there are a lot of options and I’ll just leave it
up to my trainer and advisor to deal with.”
Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn has today stated that he will now
apply pressure on Alexander to defend his belt against the 26 year-old number
one contender, but is also known to want any world title fight to happen in his fighter's backyard on UK
soil.
Whether the fight can be made in the US is debatable as
Alexander is no doubt going to be seeking a home defence in St. Louis and that
may mean Brook looks at a possible fight with rival Amir Khan in the interim.
