Australian featherweight Billy Dib will challenge Jorge Lacierva on home soil later this month for the IBF title that was stripped from Yuriorkis Gamboa in April this year. The busy 25 year-old has fought 33 times in just under seven years, with just one defeat and will now host the Mexican on July 29th.
Lacierva, 32, earned his right to challenge in April with a one-side points win against Fernando Beltran and is undefeated in four years, since losing a WBA super-bantamweight title fight to Celestino Caballero. The US-based fighter will now travel to New South Wales for the bout, which is on the younger Dib’s doorstep.
Former champion Gamboa, 29, had the title taken away from him after failing to meet the IBF regulations regarding weigh-in procedures for his unification bout with Orlando Salido. The undefeated Cuban is now without a title after the WBA also removed his ‘super’ belt as his was no longer a unified champion.
