After announcing his retirement yesterday, former two-weight world title holder Ricky Hatton is considering moving into a coaching role at his gym in Manchester. The 32 year-old finally confirmed what most of us already knew at midday yesterday, but admitted that he gets a buzz from working with young fighters and that it could be his next career path.
“I have been in the gym with Bob Shannon and all the lads at Hatton Fitness,” explained Hatton.
“I have got the bit between my teeth about maybe taking out a trainers license. I have been working with the lads and showing them a move here and a move there and I have really got a little bit of a buzz out if it.
“So I am seriously considering it, that could be Ricky’s next move. Hang the gloves up, but get the pads out,” added ‘The Hitman.”
It would be another string to the likeable Mancunian’s bow as he already has a glittering fight career behind him and a successful promotions business flourishing. It would interesting to see what style the former unified light-welterweight champion would adopt for a stint as a coach, after being trained by the likes of Billy ‘The Preacher’ Graham and Floyd Mayweather Sr. in his time as a fighter.
