Former IBF light-welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi recently posted a video on his Twitter page that he says proves that the ongoing fued with Devon Alexander was started by the Saint Louis fighter.
The 30 year-old Italian American has been embroiled in a heated one-sided argument on Twitter, which he now says dates back to October last year due to an Elie Seckbach video from around the time.
“He was at 140 and im at 147 had no problem with him,” said Malignaggi.
“I had no reason to say anything about him until that video got released.”
Malignaggi had been accused by Alexander’s trainer Kevin Cunningham of starting the verbal war with his derogatory comments about Alexander on his Twitter account, which Alexander can’t respond to as he isn’t currently on Twitter. But Malignaggi now says this is the proof that it was Alexander who instigated the rift by calling him a ‘bum’ almost a year ago.
“Yeah, the video is proof (that he started it) and the date is also. Was like in October, so this man (Kevin Cunnigham) is delusional,” explained the New Yorker.
“Once the fight gets signed with me and Devon Alexander, I'll really let the games begin. Until then, Devon and Kevin can continue to talk,” he added.
Alexander, 24, is yet to fight at the welterweight limit and has only recently announced his intention to move up to the 147lb limit. Whilst Malignaggi has already beaten future Michael Katsidis opponent Michael Lozada and Miguel Cotto’s older brother Jose, as he looks to get into position to challenge one of the belt holders.
