“The Problem” want world title this year

Cincinnati’s Adrien “The Problem” Broner showed why he is one of the hottest young prospects in the fight game last night, knocking out John Revish in the opening round to improve his stand-out record to 19-0, with 16 stoppage wins.

Broner, 21, was fighting on home soil at the Taft Masonic Temple and had the 26 year-old in trouble in the first few seconds of the bout, staggering the Louisiana-born former middleweight with a left hook, before piling on the pressure to seal his ninth first round victory.

In the process, Broner picked up his second professional title by claiming the WBC USNBC lightweight title and announced his intention to challenge for a world title later this year, before jetting off to spar with Devon Alexander ahead of his unification bout with Timothy Bradley.

His father William Sr, once fought Welterweight Champion Curtis Cokes and wanted his boy to follow in his footsteps, so decided to train Billy himself. Collins Jr. turned pro in 1981, a welterweight, just like his father before him and impressively won his first 14 professional contests, 11 by knockout with eight inside the first three rounds. It was 1983 and Billy was matched up against Puerto Rican journeyman Luis Resto on the undercard of Roberto Duran v Davey Moore at Madison Square Garden in a ten rounder. Derry Mathews willing to offer Scott Harrison title shot

Jay WBN Editor British champion open to fight with former WBO title holder According to Scott Harrison’s manager Alex Morrison, the Scot has been offered the chance to fight British champion Derry Mathews later in the year. The possbile fight hinges on whether Mathews can come through a rematch with Gavin Rees next month at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield. Morrison is looking to fast-track his fighter to a world title shot in 2013 and sees the Lonsdale belt as an ideal stepping stone for Harrison as he makes his comeback from a seven-year absence. The 34 year-old fights Brahim Bariz in his first fight since 2005 at the end of the month at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow and wants to move as quickly as possible on to a potential shot at a world champion. Harrison held the WBO featherweight title on two occasions in the past and now campaigns at lightweight.
