‘Sugar Shay’ and ‘Kid Chocolate’ not sweet on each other

Smith and Quillin insults getting personal

Former Contender star Ishe Smith and 25-0 prospect Peter Quillin are embroiled in a war of words with each other that has turned ugly in recent days with both fighters regularly berating the other on radio shows, in articles and on their respective Twitter accounts.

33 year-old Smith is much-avoided in recent times and has some impressive performances against the likes of Daniel Jacobs (lost), Pawel Wolak (won) and Fernando Guerrero (lost), all three of which could have gone either way.

Smith has never been stopped in his 27 bouts and has found it increasingly difficult to get regular fights, finding himself on the outside looking in as the top fighters in the division stay away from him and now ‘Sugar Shay’ has targeted the Grand Rapids-born fighter for a bout later in 2011.

Quillin, 28, has expressed his disinterest in Smith’s advances though and what started out as friendly banter has quickly turned ugly and personal insults flowed back and forth between the pair which has continued as both spoke to WBN.

“It’s pretty clear he doesn't want the fight, that was proven on Twitter and the radio show we did,” Smith told World Boxing News. 

“He disrespected my family and I have a problem with that. I have never seen a fighter talk so much s**t and not get in the ring and back it up.

“James Kirkland the same s**t, proclaiming on the same radio show in the past that he knocked me out in camp, but yet he doesn't want to get in the ring when it counts. 

“Quillin says in one breath he will beat me up and in the next he doubts himself against me. The fight won't happen because he is afraid of losing just like a lot of fighters are and after (Fernando) Guerrero, people know they can't use me as an opponent so they would rather not fight me.

“When I see him I am confronting him about the s**t he said about my kids.

“It’s now personal for me. He is a little boy playing a man’s game and we will see who has the biggest balls when I see him,” he added.

‘Kid Chocolate’ seems happy to participate in the argument with Smith but has almost certainly ruled himself out of a potential fight as he targets a shot a one of the 168lb world champions and laughed off Smith as a future opponent.

“Yes ‘Sh**ty Shay’ don't deserve no shot because he's sh**ty!” snapped Quillin.

“For real, I'm looking at what is ahead of me and he is way behind me. It’s out with the old and in with the new,” he laughed.

BBC make Luke Campbell mum and sister death gaffe

Jay  WBN Editor Picture from the BBC  Gabby Logan announces wrong family tragedy The BBC made a major mistake on the final showing of their Olympics Tonight show as host Gabby Logan sparked an anxious quizzing by boxer Luke Campbell’s fans as they announced the ‘loss’ of his mother and sister at a young age. Campbell, 24, took the gold medal in the men’s bantamweight final earlier in the day and was then congratulated by Logan, who announced his victory as a triumph over adversity after the Hull fighter suffered the tragedy six years ago. Unbeknown to presenter Logan, it was Welshman Freddie Evans, who also boxes in an Olympic final tomorrow, who suffered the tragedy as he lost his mother Tracy and sister Scarlett in a car accident in 2006. Soccer star Tim Cahill’s cousin Jai Opetaia, 16, spars Danny Green

Jay WBN Editor (Picture from The Brisbane Times) Youngster shares ring with IBO champ Jai Opetaia, cousin of Everton Football Club’s star soccer player Tim Cahill, is a sixteen year-old amateur fighter who is deep in preparations for the forthcoming world youth championships.  Recently the youngster was given the opportunity to spar with Australia’s IBO world light-heavyweight champion Danny Green as he prepares to take on Antonio Tarver and gain valuable experience before his trip to Europe. Opetaia, who hails from Watanobbi, has already taken former world champion Anthony Mundine a few rounds in sparring and has added another world renowned boxer to the list in 38 year-old Green.
