Knockout specialist looks to change form
Tyrone Brunson is eyeing a return to the ring in the coming
months following a second career defeat earlier this year on the back of a
27 month absence since his first loss to the highly-ranked Carson Jones.
The 27 year-old had previously gone on an astonishing
19-fight first round knockout streak before a draw with Antonio Soriano in
August 2008 and has since going through a patchy period, culminating in his
second loss to James De la Rosa in March.
“We passed on a rematch with De la Rosa as it won’t do anything
for my career at this point,” Brunson told World Boxing News.
”I am just hoping to get back on track in 2012 and compete
for a title and I don’t mind fighting the
best to be the best.
“There is talk of maybe fighting at 147lbs, but for now I
think I will stay at 154lbs.
“I just want to thank my loyal fans who stuck by me and I
want to tell everybody who criticized me that I took and a half years off and came
back against a good fighter. My timing
and rhythm was off and I was rusty, but everybody has seen the talent I possess
and I’ll be back in the ring soon.”
‘Young Gun’ broke Edwin Valero’s 18-fight first round knockout record in 2008 and although Brunson was heavily chastised for
some of the fighters on his record, the Philadelphian is out to prove he deserves to
be up with the elite after slipping down the rankings.
