Klitschko ready to leave boxing behind
WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko is ready to focus on his career in politics after
admitting in an online conference this week that his sixteen-year fight career is
coming towards the end.
The 40 year-old, who has held world titles on three
occasions, turns a year older in July and may have just one fight left before
he vacates the title to concentrate on his bid to become the Mayor of Kiev.
"My sports career is nearing completion, but sport has
always had a place in my heart and it always will have,” stated Klitschko.
Speculation had been rife that ‘Dr. Ironfist would crown his
career with an attempt to knockout David Haye in a German grudge match this summer
following months of back and forth talks with the former WBA title holder.
An injury to Vitali’s shoulder against Dereck Chisora in
February, coupled with the two British fighters signing on to face each other
in July, has put Klitschko’s next fight announcement on hold and it may be late
2012 before the Ukrainian finally bows out.
