The ‘Pinoy Punch’ retains his title
Brian Viloria produced a career-best performance to defeat
former light-flyweight king Giovani Segura and retain his WBO flyweight title
in Pasig City, Philippines last night.
The 31 year-old surprisingly dominated the Mexican over the
eight rounds, causing a swelling on his face before taking him out in the
eighth round to inflict Segura’s second career loss to the home crowds delight.
The two-weight world champion is now undefeated in four
bouts and will move on to a possible unification in 2012 after causing one of
the shocks of the year.
In Nayarit, Mexico, Liborio Solis and Johan Perez picked up
the interim versions of the WBA super-flyweight and light-welterweight titles
respectively with victories over Jose Salgado and Fernando Castaneda.
