Supervisor unreachable according to WBA and IBF

The head official involved in the controversial Lamont Peterson v Amir Khan world title fight on December 10th last year Michael Welsh, is unresponsive to calls from the WBA and IBF and has been feeling ‘depressed’ according to a report in The Daily Telegraph.

Welsh, who was ringside at the bout to supervise the scorecards, was repeatedly seen in contact with Mustafa Ameen throughout the close fight in Washington and as a storm brewed over the activity of Ameen, Welsh became unreachable according to the sanctioning bodies of the contest.

"We have called him several times but we are getting no response from him," WBA Vice-President Gilberto Mendoza told the newspaper.

IBF public relations director Jeanette Salazar followed Mendoza by stating: "We were unable to reach Mr Welsh after repeated attempts to contact him.”

Concerns are now beginning to intensify as Welsh continues his silence, with The Telegraph even acquiring information that the supervisor may be suffering from some sort of depression in the wake of the media frenzy surrounding him and Ameen.

Ameen has publicly come out to defend himself, whilst Welsh, who is seemingly faultless in the whole situation, is yet to declare the timeline of events that lead to Ameen having close proximity with the scorecards.

"We hope that by the end of the weekend we will be able to put out a statement explaining this entire situation,” added WBA boss Mendoza.
