Unbeaten heavyweight Robert Bruce is hoping that he will
still be able to meet Kimbo Slice in the ring on February 11th in
Springfield, Missouri after notifying WBN that he had been pulled from the
contest without explanation.
Bruce, 29, and his team are disappointed that he was overlooked for the former UFC fighter’s fourth pro outing after contracts were exchanged and along with
gym-mate Jose Lopez, have called out the 37 year-old to face Bruce next month.
“We believe that he is trying to build a career with
nobody’s on his record and the last we heard Robert was considered a nobody so
we don’t understand the problem,” Lopez stated to World Boxing News.
“We had received the contract and everything was in order
just for them to back out.
“The Bruce camp feels that Kimbo chose a formidable opponent
without realising it and now knows that he bit off more than he can chew. So with that said, Robert “Hands of Stone“Bruce
is now calling Kimbo out.
“Robert now feels Kimbo is ducking a loss and wants the opportunity
to show the world he’s not all he’s cracked up to be,” he added.
Former street-fighter Slice is due to fight at the O'Reilly Center after racking up three straight wins since switching to boxing last year and promoter Gary Shaw is set to confirm the opponent in the coming days.
