‘Dinamita’ on a mission to derail huge fight
WBO welterweight title challenger Juan Manuel Marquez is
preparing to upset millions of fans worldwide by defeating Manny Pacquiao tonight in Las Vegas, taking his title and ending any hopes
the Filipino has of unifying the titles against Floyd Mayweather.
Marquez, who turned 38 in August, is focusing on derailing Pacquiao's unbeaten run that stretches back to 2005 when he lost to current WBC light-welterweight champion Erik Morales.
“He [Pacquiao] knows the last two fights [ended in] a
controversial decision,” Marquez told Unang Hirit.
“He knows he [has] a difficult opponent. I started to train at
12 weeks. I know Manny Pacquiao is a great fighter; I needed to train very hard.
I needed to train for more time than before.
“Pacquiao started to train in 10 weeks; he knows who Manuel
Marquez [is].
“Manny, he knows who won the last two fights. This is the past and now
this is the present. The present is Nov. 12. I’m ready for this fight.
“A lot of people say ‘I want to see the fight [between]
Pacquiao and Mayweather.’ He needs to win me [first]. The
important date for me is Nov. 12. I don’t think (the Floyd fight will happen any) more, I
don’t see it in the future.”
Manny Pacquiao v Juan Manuel Marquez for the WBO
welterweight title is live on HBO PPV on tonight from the MGM
Grand in Las Vegas.
