‘Pacman’ on board for huge welterweight showdown
WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao has responded to
WBC belt holder Floyd Mayweather’s desire to fight him in May by declaring on
US television that his is ‘ready to fight’ him in Las Vegas on May 5th.
Drug-testing issues that cause negotiations to collapse in
2009 seem to have been ironed out and it seems that only the timing of
Mayweather’s admission has put a dent in the possibility of negotiations
getting underway.
Bob Arum has stated that after Pacquiao, 32, meets Juan
Manuel Marquez next Saturday night, talks could potentially get going between
both sides and Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer is ready to represent Floyd’s
side of the deal.
The only stumbling block would be if Marquez could pull off
a shock at the MGM Grand on November 12th, but potentially a fight could still go ahead between
the pair on fans demand alone.
