Mayweather advisor wades in on offer claims
Floyd Mayweather’s right hand man Leonard Ellerbe has
disputed recent claims by Manny Pacquiao that the WBC welterweight champion
offered him $40 million dollars with no PPV and that the Filipino told
Mayweather he wanted a 50-50 deal.
“Pacquiao is lying,” Ellerbe said bluntly to Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports recently. “What
Manny Pacquiao has to understand, and I don’t think he understands this part,
is that if the fight ever comes off, he’ll never make the kind of money that
Floyd makes. That’s simply because of the structure of his terrible deal with his
promoter.
“[Pacquiao] is a guy who doesn’t know what he makes fight to
fight. He has no idea of where the revenue comes from. There’s no way he’s
going to come up with something like that [offer] off the top of his dome.”
All manner of reasons have kept the two fighters apart for
this long, what with blood testing, venues, dates, prison sentences and
promoter issues and it now seems that money may yet be the biggest factor in
the process of sealing the fight.
Bob Arum is calling for both fighters to agree to stage the
mega-fight in November - but with Mayweather expecting a far bigger purse than
Pacquiao, the fight the whole of boxing wants made may never reach first base.
