Wright poised to face Quillin
Golden Boy Promotions are on the verge on confirming that
former undisputed light-middleweight champion of the world Ronald ‘Winky’
Wright will tackle the undefeated prospect Peter ‘Kid Chocolate’ Quillin on May 5th in Las Vegas.
Wright, 40, has been out of the ring for almost two years
since losing to Paul Williams at the Mandalay Bay and would have to go back
almost another two years to his bout with Bernard Hopkins in a period of
semi-retirement.
The southpaw has five losses in his 57 contests, but has a wealth of experience with 15
world title bouts under his belt. The finalisation of the bout will represent a
significant step-up for Quillin, who is twelve years Wright’s junior and has a
perfect 26-fight record.
The New York-based fighter originates from the same mean Michigan
streets as Floyd Mayweather Jr. and will now add another standout undercard
fight to the recently confirmed Saul Alvarez v Shane Mosley bout on the WBC
champion’s headlining contest with Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand.
