Former champion overlooked for Quillin
Ronald ‘Winky’ Wright will not fight Peter ‘Kid Chocolate’
Quillin on the huge Cinco de Mayo card at the MGM Grand topped by Floyd
Mayweather’s WBA light-middleweight title bout against Miguel Cotto.
Wright, 40, was
widely rumoured to be Quillin’s next foe for the date but revealed yesterday
that he was contacted about the possible bout before being ruled out as the 28
year-old’s 27th professional opponent.
Quillin has an unblemished record since entering the paid
ranks in 2005 and had been bantering with the former undisputed world champion
via Twitter for the past few days about their slated meeting.
The Grand Rapids-born fighter is said to be close to a world
title shot at the middleweight limit and will no doubt be looking for an
impressive victory over a ranked fighter, to take him into a possible shot at
the likes of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. or Sergio Martinez later in the year.
