Yorkshireman wants Belfast bout
Footballer-turned boxer Curtis Woodhouse is itching to get
the contract for his projected clash with former world title challenger Paul
McCloskey and sign on to face the Irishman in Belfast.
The 31 year-old, who stopped Gary McArthur in four rounds
last time out, has been offered the chance to oppose ‘Dudey’ at a huge upcoming
Matchroom Boxing show on April 28th and Woodhouse is chomping at the bit.
“I have some cracking news. I have been offered a fight
against WBA number six Paul McCloskey,” explained Woodhouse.
“Top of the bill in Belfast. I am really am excited about
the fight. What an opportunity this is. It is going to be a mad night in
Belfast! Where do I get to sign?”
McCloskey, 32, has fought just once since losing out to Amir
Khan in his first world title challenge but none-the-less, took an impressive
victory over Breidis Prescott last September to keep himself right up there
with the top contenders at 140lbs.
The former European champion is ticking over whilst he
awaits news of Marcos Maidana’s WBA light-welterweight belt as the Argentinian
moves up the weights to fight Devon Alexander at the end of the month.
A win for ‘Chino’ could leave the belt vacant for McCloskey
to contend with interim belt holder Johan Perez or a defeat for Maidana could
see him left in limbo and forced to look elsewhere for another world title shot,
provided he gets past the tricky Woodhouse.
