‘Money’ forced to look elsewhere after Cotto bout
If Floyd Mayweather pulls off yet another impressive win on
May 5th, this time against WBA light-middleweight champion Miguel
Cotto, the five-weight world title holder will continue to be linked with a
super-fight with Manny Pacquiao - of that there is no doubt.
The 35 year-old himself though, is more realistic and
believes that as long as Bob Arum has an interest in the Filipino Congressman,
the bout the world is waiting for will be avoided and leave both men to look at
other fighters.
Asked in a recent discussion with The Los Angeles Times if he thought the bout would happen after his
showdown with Cotto, Mayweather said bluntly: "No, I don't think it's
going to happen."
He then went on to point the finger squarely at Pacquiao’s
promoter by adding: "It's because of Bob Arum. It's not my fault. All I
can do is continue to fight. Fighters are chasing me."
The American has been linked to more than one name once he
has serve his forthcoming prison term, with the likes of Sergio Martinez and
Saul Alvarez topping the list at this point.
Cotto, 31, will definitely give Mayweather more of a test
the Victor Ortiz did last September, but on his game Floyd is irresistible and
the constant talk of Pacquiao is surely just around the corner once more.
